LinkedIn hits the 500m member mark

This comes at a time when a survey has shown interest in the platform waning in the future.

Asia Pacific is one of the professional social network’s fastest growing markets, with member numbers growing almost six times to 118 million since launching the APAC headquarters in Singapore six years ago.

Singapore is third on the list of most connected countries on LinkedIn, coming behind United Arab Emirates and the Netherlands. Professionals in Singapore have an average of 152 connections. The Greater Jakarta area (Jabodetabek) ranked fourth on the list of most connected places with an average of 225 connections, behind San Francisco, Amsterdam and London.

India remains the biggest market in APAC, second globally with over 42m members, while Southeast Asia has seen membership grow to over 22m, up from 20m last quarter.

“A global professional community of this size has never existed until now. It’s exciting to cross such a meaningful milestone that is taking us closer to LinkedIn’s vision of creating economic opportunities for every member of the global workforce by developing the world’s first Economic Graph,” said Olivier Legrand, managing director, Asia Pacific, LinkedIn.

“In Asia Pacific, our members are embracing the power of professional network in a big way – no matter whether they are from developing markets like India or Indonesia or developed markets such as Australia or Singapore. This has never been more relevant in this part of the world. We are eager to see more members connect to career, business and partnership opportunities on LinkedIn,” he added.
