HEAD coach Myles Landick called upon his players to be ‘more ruthless’ and to put teams to the sword.

Unfortunately for the travelling Bournemouth II outfit, his players did just that.

The hosts amassed 11 tries en route to a 80-19 demolition, which now sees the Caesarean side five points clear of Havant II at the top of the tree.

Landick said: ‘First 10 minutes, we were a little bit asleep, but after they went ahead we were much more effective at scoring when in the right positions.

‘In the second period, we struggled to keep that tempo up and didn’t really convert as well as we wanted to.

‘But ultimately we scored 80 points and made sure that they didn’t leave with a losing bonus point either.

‘Overall, we are getting closer to a complete performance. We are not quite there yet, but this week was far better.

Once again, Jersey RFC used the contest to hand a debut to 18-year-old James Kent, who came off the bench and also Eryk Swiech, who again scored two tries with electric pace down the right wing.

‘James and Eryk were superb when they came on,’ said Landick.

‘They need exposure to adult rugby and to get them out there in front of a huge home crowd will only help their progression.’

Along with the blend of youth was a very experienced core, including Roy Godfrey, Daniel Butler-Hawkes, Jack Macfarlane and Aaron Penberthy.

The former Reds were responsible for four of Jersey’s tries, on a day that highlighted their superiority in the Counties 1 Hampshire – London & SE Division.

The hosts dominated every aspect of the game, with tries stemming from multiple sources, with a brace from Godfrey at number eight, while Nathan Rogers and Swiech added two each from the wing.

Captain Tim Corson said: ‘We said this game we wanted to put a lot more points on the board and that’s exactly what we did.

‘Training was great this week and we could really see the result of that out on the pitch.

‘The second half got slightly scrappy, but we weathered that and piled on more points to finish strong, which is a big positive.

‘Sometimes it is difficult to maintain a level once you get to 40 or 50 ahead and that is something we have worked on to try to sustain the pressure.

‘Being able to go on and score 80 points today is a big step in the right direction.’

His side now gear up for an away trip at Alton, who are yet to earn a single point, all while conceding 299 points across their six fixtures.
