A HAT-TRICK of penalty tries ensured Jersey Reds maintained their 100% winning record in the Championship after a tough battle at home to Cornish Pirates.

In wet and windy conditions, Reds had to soak up immense pressure in the second half as the Cornish side pressed hard but Jersey held on for a 21-10 win.

All of Reds’ points were awarded to them by referee Harry Walbaum as the home side’s mauls were deemed to be repelled illegally as the pushed against the touchline.

They went into half-time 14-0 up but Cornish fought back with tries from Arwel Robson and Carwyn Penny. However, the visitors could not convert for the extras and a third penalty try late on gave Reds the win.

Full report in Monday’s JEP.
