THE pair of Luke Paxton-Garnier and Peter Washington were the stand-out performers among a strong contingent from Jersey competing in the Hobie 16 World Championships in Spain.

Over a period of three days that included ten races on the Costa Brava, Paxton-Garnier and Washington, competing in the Youth World Championships, had four top-five finishes, including placing third in race six.

From a 14th-place finish in race one, the pair continued to show steady improvement from the last race to the next, finishing ninth overall.

Also competing from Jersey in the Youths were siblings Juliette Walton and Russell Walton, who came 15th overall. Twelfth place in the first race was their best showing.

The Italian pairing of Valerio Tomassi and Eva Orsolini were comfortably overall winners.

In the main Open event, Owen Harper and Lucy Dupre missed out on a place in the semi-finals after finishing in 69th place in the qualifying round.

In the Great Grand Masters Cup, Ken Snell and Aaron Le Cornu finished 11th overall, while Miguel Arraya and Jonathan Beaty finished last in a field of 24 crew in the Grand Masters Cup.

Both pairs also featured in the Masters Cup, finishing 31st and 36th respectively, while Adrian Jesson and Ollie Voak came 20th.
