WORKS are progressing on the refurbishment of the St Helier Marina as the Ports of Jersey aim to get it ready in time for this year’s Barclays Jersey Boat Show.
The project started in September last year and involves the removal and replacement of the guide piles and pontoons, which are at the end of their serviceable life.
Up to £3.5 million has been invested in the refurbishment, which is being carried out by contractor Geomarine and is the first since the marina opened in 1981.
The new scheme follows the ongoing £5 million programme to upgrade the ageing Albert Pier terminal and introduce 24-hour-access berthing pontoons.
Steve Tanner, capital projects director for Ports of Jersey, said: ‘Work is progressing well on the refurbishment of the St Helier Marina with the installation of the new pontoons and fingers almost complete, while the team continue with installing essential services. The project is due for completion in time for the Barclays Jersey Boat Show, after which we will look forward to welcoming back our berth holders.’
The Barclays Jersey Boat Show is set to return for the first time in almost three years after previous editions of the event were cancelled due to pandemic restrictions, which prevented large-scale gatherings and events from going ahead. The three-day maritime celebration is set to run from 10 to 12 June and regularly attracts around 30,000 people to the St Helier Marina and adjacent Weighbridge.
