About the Finance Division:  


The Finance Division manages SPR’s accounting, contracting, event and athletic scheduling, our customer program scheduling portal (Active Net), Amy Yee Tennis Center (AYTC), and three Specialty Gardens (Volunteer Park Conservatory, Japanese Gardens, and Kubota Gardens).  The Division administratively supports our other SPR divisions (Recreation; Planning, Development & Maintenance; Parks & Environment, Human Resources, Policy) and focuses externally to support our community with excellent customer experiences at AYTC, athletic and event permitting, and the Specialty Gardens.  

 

About the Position: 


The full time AYTC/Specialty Garden Manager will provide oversight of the Specialty Gardens (located at Japanese Garden, Volunteer Park Conservatory and Kubota Gardens) and to the Amy Yee Tennis Center.  The manager will foster positive, productive working relationships with several SPR partner organizations.  The AYTC/Specialty Garden Manager reports to the Director of Finance and is an instrumental member of the Finance Division management team.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage and supervise 2 direct staff and indirect supervision of 14.59 FTE.  Leading team of professional staff, evaluating work, providing guidance and management support.  
  • Financial management of the operating expense and revenue budgets for the Specialty Gardens ($390K and $321K, respectively) and AYTC ($1.08M and $777K, respectively). Prepare monthly revenue and expense reports.
  • Ensure all funds received are appropriately controlled, deposited, and accounted for in accordance with applicable requirements, regulations, or legislation.  
  • Prepare semi-annual revenue report for the Arboretum Foundation to process contractual revenue support and split.
  • Manage Specialty Garden and Tennis programs focused on visitor services. Coordinate with other department staff, City departments, local and regional community-based agencies, citizens, and partners including the Arboretum Foundation and Friends of the Conservatory, Seattle Public Schools, Associated Recreation Council. 
  • Ensure programs and activities meet the City and SPR goals and the needs of diverse communities.
  • Work with Planning and Development Division to oversee the development and implementation of capital improvement projects, working with citizen advisory groups on the project planning and design.
  • Support processes and procedures to advance diversity, equity, and inclusion and supporting the goals of the City’s Race and Social Justice Initiative.
  • Develop, implement, and report out on a system of performance measurements that track performance goals and outcomes for each location. 
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.  Build relationships and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, partners, residents, and citizen advisory groups.
  • Provide Park and Recreation resources to those who have been overlooked and underserved - and, in fact, mis-served - by past discriminatory policies, and practices. 

Qualifications

Minimum Required Qualifications:


  1. Demonstrated experience working with partnership and contract management, as evidenced by 3+ years of experience working with partner organizations, citizen advisory groups, community organization, or related experience. 
  2. At least three (3) years-experience that includes developing and leading recreation programming, program management, customer relations and service delivery or related fields.
  3. Strong supervision and leadership skills, as evidenced by 5 years of supervising teams. 
  4. Three (3) years of budget and fiscal management experience.
  5. Current Washington State driver’s license or evidence of equivalent mobility required.

  • Conflict management skills and the ability to solve problems, negotiate, and successfully work on teams.
  • Ability to function successfully in a highly visible arena, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and flexibly manage changing circumstances.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 applications for communication, analysis, and reporting.   
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, public administration, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Experience working in a matrix organization to ensure the planned outcomes are realized as intended.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of tennis programming

Additional Information

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

  • Work is generally performed in an office environment and in the field to regularly visit AYTC and Specialty Garden sites
  • Attendance at occasional night and weekend meetings and hearings is required.
