Survey: 35 Percent of U.S. Companies Do Not Know When They’ll Reopen Workplaces

Many businesses hoped to reopen their workplaces after Labor Day, but a new survey of managers and executives suggests a long, uncertain road ahead. Thirty-five percent say the timing of when their companies will reopen the workplace is unknown.

FORTUNE Releases Annual FORTUNE Global 500 List

FORTUNE announced the FORTUNE Global 500 for the 2019 fiscal year, ranking the world’s largest corporations by revenue. Walmart claimed the top spot for the seventh consecutive year, and for the 15th time since 1995. For the first time ever, mainland China (including Hong Kong) has the most companies on the list, up five from last year with 124. Adding Taiwan, the total for greater China is 133. The U.S. held steady with 121, and Japan gained one for a total of 53. The companies on the 2020 list are based in 225 cities and 32 countries around the world. This year there are 14 women CEOs of FORTUNE Global 500 companies.

United Airlines Permanently Eliminates Change Fees

The only thing constant is change and at United Airlines, some of the fees associated with changes related to flying are gone for good. The carrier announced on Aug. 30 that it is permanently getting rid of change fees on all standard economy and premium cabin tickets for travel within the U.S., effective immediately. And starting on Jan. 1, 2021, any United customer can fly standby for free on a flight departing the day of their travel regardless of the type of ticket or class of service, a first among U.S. carriers, while MileagePlus Premier members can confirm a seat on a different flight on the same day with the same departure and arrival cities as their original ticket if a seat in the same ticket fare class is available.

American Lung Association Announces Comprehensive Plan to End Youth Vaping Epidemic for Students, Parents, Schools

More than one in four high school students use e-cigarettes, setting them up for a lifetime of addiction. In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General has classified this increase in youth vaping “an epidemic.” As kids head back to school, whether in-person or virtually, many will experience social pressure to vape. Others may begin vaping in response to the trigger of stress, including stress related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Vaping exposes kids to harmful chemicals, damaging developing lungs and may even place them at greater risk for severe COVID-19 complications. Now, when protecting lung health is more important than ever, the American Lung Association has announced a broad plan to end youth vaping.
