The Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 has shown time and time again it can dominate at the drag strip. It's defeated everything from new NSXs, to BMW M8s, to Challenger Hellcats.

But it seems that not even a few power mods and sticky tires could help it win against the McLaren 720S.

The McLaren was built for supreme on-road and road course performance, but thanks to its massive power output and world-class traction management system, it makes for one serious drag machine.

It can run nines straight from the factory, and with some simple upgrades, can break into the eights—insane for something you can comfortably drive to work every day. Even with an aftermarket exhaust, a new intake, a tune, and some Toyo R888R tires, this blue GT500 never stood a chance.

The Shelby comes up against the McLaren three times in this video from DragTimes above, and all three times, it's the McLaren that comes out on top. In the first race, the McLaren breaks into the nines, and the Shelby misses a shift. During the last race, the Shelby jumps the start, but still can't edge out the McLaren in the end.

Sorry Mustang fans, but the McLaren is king.
