Instagram has done it again! The image-sharing platform has just launched a brand new feature that is bound to make it an even greater, more dynamic and engaging tool - meet IGTV.
In case you haven’t noticed, there is a new icon on the top right-hand corner of your Instagram. That TV-shaped button is actually IGTV, Instagram's’ new take on full screen, long-form vertical videos.
It supports videos up to 60 minutes long, which is already a huge difference from the quick Stories we have been used to viewing and sharing. The longer format actually gives greater freedom to creators to showcase more in-depth content, hence strengthening their video-based presence. The best part is that anyone with an Instagram account can create their own channel and share long-format videos with their followers! It seems that there may be a few IGTV stars on the making ;)
Once you open your IGTV tool you’ll see 3 different tabs: “For You” shows a mix between accounts you follow and videos that are blowing up; “Following” shows the accounts you follow; and “Popular” as the name suggests, shows trending videos of people you don’t follow. It works as the “Explore” tab on Instagram since it allows you to find new people.
At the moment, there are 3 ways to watch IGTV:
- In the Instagram app, by clicking on the IGTV icon located on the top hand corner of the screen;
- By downloading the standalone IGTV app;
- By selecting the IGTV button on someone’s Instagram profile, next to the highlights.
