Dariel Studio has chosen Paris, city of art and culture to realise its first French residential project. Located in the heart of the capital in the 4th district Boulevard Morlan.

Thomas Dariel, the studio’s founder and leading designer has created a universe around the Parisian elegance and grace while adding a touch of surrealism, playfulness and joy. This apartment was initially empty and white. He was then able to give free rein to his imagination and creativity while respecting the expectations of his clients: a home base where they could feel at ease in a family-like cocoon yet reflecting the rich cultural environment of Paris.

The entrance is most surprising. Crossing the threshold one straight away is absorbed by a deep blue envelope. Walls, ceiling and concealed doors have been treated monochromatically, all surfaces blending into each other. Nothing is breaking the colour rhythm of this intense path leading to the light – to be the opening of the living room.

On the floor, a customized rug rings structure yet warmth with geometrical patterns softened by pastel tones. Of more than six meters long, the rug creates – as well – a pathway through the apartment. At the bottom of the corridor sits a celadon-colour console designed by Thomas Dariel for Maison Dada, his own Maison d’edition of furniture. This very poetic and gentle piece stakes a change in the design that akes a lighter turn from this point.

Indeed, while the living room falls in line with the entrance through design signature and colour tones, it also firmly bright, playful and inspired. Thomas Dariel likes to play and integrates a great dose of humour in this elegant and sophisticated interior. The oversize printing of Portalen by artist Kay Sage and its surreal use of perspective set the tone. Geometrical graphics are everywhere.

On the walls horizontally divided into two colours - which are then inversed on each panel - on the impressive cabinet displaying a combination of natural colour and black geometrical patterns onto the Lazy Susan coffee table by Maison Dada, a spinning hence always in motion piece of furniture.

Dusty pink side tables whose feet are made with an umbrella cane – pedestal of gorgeous lamps by India Madhavi - to Little Eliah flying table lamps flirting with gravity, Thomas Dariel also winks to the dandy atmosphere of the 30’s. The love of the designer and the clients for beautiful and timeless pieces of furniture is not left behind as claim the sofa by Hermes, dining chairs by Se London, rug by Taiping Carpet and side tables by the newcomer yet already well-known maison La Chance.

Contrasting with this very rich atmosphere, the kitchen has been intentionally designed into a sleek volume with pure lines to highlight functionality and nobleness of the used materials. The dark-grey tiles cut as herringbone wooden floor are the only reminiscence of the traditional Parisian style, while the cutting-edge equipment associated with solid oak and marble transform this kitchen into an elegant yet modern and efficient space.

The bathroom is somewhere a sum-up of the whole apartment, going from an overall white-tone marble and corian equipped shower room to a very extravagant and full of derision flower jungle wallpapered toilets. From ordinary to extra-ordinary. That is the moto of Thomas Dariel and its studio who wish to be serious yet playful, spontaneous and carefree.
