On January 28th, the Student Government Association at Angelo State voted and passed a bill that would make the third week of Feruary officially known on campus as Safety Awareness Week.

The SGA decided to partner with the Office of Communications and Marketing, Environmental Health, Safety and Risk Management, and the ASUPD after realizing only 1,139 students were signed up to receive text message alerts from the campus police.

This week, the campus will be promoting safety resources always available to students.

Some of those resources include security cameras, the lifeline app students can download on their phones, ASU Alert text messages, and the 16 call boxes located throughout the campus.

Despite the growth the university has seen over the years, crime rates have either stayed about the same, or even decreased in some categories.

The ASU Police Department strives to keep bettering the community and raising awareness about overall safety.
