Not content with merely complaining about politics, Susie began organizing and using her experience as a lawyer – traveling to the border to offer legal assistance to migrants – to “get our government back for the good guys.”

What woman in your life has been the greatest source of inspiration to you? Just one? Jeez. My friend Amy comes to mind. She’s a CEO, activist, philanthropist. But what really inspires me is that she’s a Type A+ who puts on zero airs and has a huge Midwestern heart. She always makes room for one more at her table. She’s a hugger and a jokester, cooks divine meatballs, supports her friends’ kids like they’re her own, and is the best gifter around. (For instance, she gave me my favorite Lingua Franca sweater: “November is coming.”)

What does it mean to be extraordinary? An ordinary person who responds to extraordinary challenges with superpowers, of any sort.

How do you hope to inspire the next generation of women? By speaking up even (especially) when it’s terrifying; by doing rather than complaining; and by modeling purpose, humility, self-love and courage.

What motivates you to do your extraordinary work? An obsession with justice and dignity, and eternal soft spot for the underdog, a raging intolerance for bullies. And my three daughters, who are pretty extraordinary women themselves.
