Last week your UK junior doctors committee made the decision to not re-enter contract negotiations.
We gave you 10 reasons why this conclusion was reached – but there are more than 50,000 reasons, one for every junior doctor in the UK, why these proposals are not acceptable.
Today, we announce the first phase of our campaign to ensure that junior doctors get a contract that values their work and protects their patients.
From Monday we want you to share how these proposals will affect you. We want to share 50,000 reasons with policy-makers and the public so that we can continue to represent the reality of being a junior doctor.
You can support the #50000reasons campaign by sharing your stories on Twitter and Facebook, and via BMA Communities. You can also tell us your stories directly by emailing us at 50000reasons@bma.org.uk

We need a contract that is safe for junior doctors and our patients – so we want you to say why the UK Government must reverse its position on the DDRB’s unacceptable recommendations that would:
- remove vital safeguards, which discourage employers from making junior doctors work dangerously long hours, and in doing so protect patient and doctor safety
- result in pay that no longer reflects the experience junior doctors gain through their training
- extend hours of work paid at a standard rate from 60 per week to 90. It is unacceptable that working 9pm on a Saturday is viewed the same as working 9am on a Tuesday
The Government must take this opportunity to enter into real negotiations, but if they choose not to, we will use every tool at our disposal to secure the contract you deserve.

Best wishes, Andrew Collier and Kitty Mohan BMA junior doctors committee co-chairs
