Manchester is to host the UK’s only Falling Walls Lab on July 27.

Entrepreneurs from across the UK are being asked to consider 'which walls will fall next?’, and share their research, visions and business models with a panel of experts.

Each successful entrant will have three minutes to present their idea at the event. They must identify which ‘wall’ they want to break – which problem their research and ideas will help to solve.

Winners of the international Labs will be invited to the Falling Walls Lab Finale in Berlin, where they will again give their three minute presentations, before three overall winners are selected.

The Falling Walls Lab was founded by the Falling Walls Foundation in 2011, in order to connect emerging talents and senior innovators, and support and develop outstanding researchers.

It is supported by Founding Partner, A.T. Kearney and Global Partner, Festo. The Falling Walls Foundation is a non-profit organisation in Berlin, dedicated to the support of science and humanities.

Lynn Sheppard, director of Manchester Enterprise Centre, said: “Falling Walls choosing to host its only UK Lab in Manchester is one of the most exciting things to happen in the region for creative minds.

"This is an amazing opportunity for young researchers to step forward and present their ideas that could help accelerate the world of science and solve some of the most pressing problems facing our society.

“Entrepreneurial thinking has a tremendous impact on our economy, culture and way of life, and I am greatly looking forward seeing this year’s entries, and what some of the best minds in the UK can bring to the table.”

Manchester Enterprise Centre is hosting the event as part of the EuroScience Open Forum (ESOF), which takes place in Manchester from July 23 – 27.

Every two years, ESOF brings together over 4,500 leading thinkers, innovators, policy makers, journalists and educators from more than 90 countries, to discuss current and future breakthroughs in contemporary science.
