Arctic Monkeys air new material at first show of 2018

They debuted new material from forthcoming album 'Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino' live in San Diego

Arctic Monkeys made their live return last night (May 2) with a show at San Diego’s The Observatory, and aired plenty of new material from forthcoming album ‘Tranquility Base Hotel & Casino‘.

Out on May 11, the band’s forthcoming sixth record is their first since ‘AM’ in 2013. New cuts ‘One Point Perspective’ and ‘American Sport’ got their debut performances at the show, along with a guest appearance from Tame Impala’s Cameron Avery on two new tracks, ‘Four Out of Five’ and ‘She Looks Like Fun’

A clip captured by a front row fan at the gig shows Arctic Monkeys exploring piano tinkles and warm, heady waves of guitar in the new material.

On a first airing of ‘One Point Perspective’, meanwhile, there’s a hip-shaking guitar solo from Alex Turner, and more than a hint of cinematic ambition.

Arctic Monkeys also played classics from across their discography at the show, opening with the double impact of ‘View From the Afternoon’ and ‘Brianstorm’. Fans were also treated to another live first, with the band performing ‘AM’ rarity ‘You’re So Dark’ for the first time.
