How much is a pot of gold worth?

Finding a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow is everyone's dream.

But how much would it be worth if you actually did find it? GoBankingRates.com did the math in time for St. Patrick's Day and came up with $427,000.

The finance-based website determined the value based on the size of a standard clay pot that is 10 inches wide and 9.75 inches deep. Assuming all the space in the pot was filled, the pot would hold 271.36 ounces of gold that would be worth $427,000 based on today's prices of gold of around $1,575 an ounce.

Of course, if you had just bought gold as an investment a few years ago, you also could have struck it rich. Gold purchased on Nov. 3, 2008, at $722 an ounce would be worth more than twice that based on today's prices.
